The first draft of this page was a little different, and mentioned other sentient species like Pudding, namely Humans. This page was ALMOST the first time a human was in DotX.

BUT!! We've not yet reached that day. Not this chapter. Not for a long while!

FUN FACT: Every monster in that second panel is either from DotX, or one of my old old RPG maker games!

Is that supposed to be "empathized" instead of "emphasized"?

wait. hold up. the Demon is capable of speech, emotion, and empathy. wouldn't that mean that the Demon is no longer a monster?

All spelling/grammar errors should be fixed now, thank you for pointing them out!!

And @Zenpai, This Demon is a fringe case and is not representative of Demons as a whole! Being sealed away for several hundred years gave them a lot of time to think.

so, if a monster is left alive for a long enough time, they could achieve the same (or at least similar) cognitive functions as Mobians and Humans?
also, when a monster dies, does their consciousness enter a new body? do they remember their previous lives?

In order of the questions you've just asked:

Depending on the monster! Demons are among the smartest monsters, (similar to Dragons) and so yes they can! Other monsters like Wasps and Lunar Bears would not be able to.

Monsters appear to believe in reincarnation as a sort of natural instinct. Monsters are known not to fear death, but rather accept it as a routine part of life. Whether or not Monsters actually DO reincarnate is difficult to study, as monsters rarely show any semblance of personality. Further research on monsters must be done to know for sure, though how that research can be done is difficult to figure out.

You know, I think being inside Pudding so long might've made the Demon civilized and empathetic, I think they'll do fine in the real world, and become a good person, if they'll just stop being so stubborn. They deserve it.
